Do not store food, liquids or batteries
Anything perishable, anything that can leak, and loose batteries should not go in. They are the usual cause of damage to everything stored around them.
For when the dates do not line up. Goods inventoried in, held for as long as you need, and delivered out when you are ready.
Possession dates rarely line up neatly. The gap between leaving one home and getting keys to the next is the most common reason people need storage — and planning for it is far cheaper than improvising.
It also comes up when you are moving abroad for a fixed period, renovating, downsizing temporarily, or moving into a furnished place and needing somewhere for your own furniture to wait.
Goods are inventoried as they go in, so you have a written record of exactly what is held, and inventoried again as they come out. Storage is billed separately from the move, by duration, and the rate is confirmed in writing before anything enters the facility.

A washing machine or fridge with water still in it will develop mould in a closed space. Drain and dry both thoroughly before the move, not on the day.
Passports, deeds, certificates and anything you may suddenly need should never go into storage. Carry them yourself.
Storage arranged in advance is planned into the route and the inventory. Arranged on the day, it means a vehicle and crew waiting while space is found, and that is charged.
By the volume held and the duration, separately from the move itself. You get the rate and the billing period in writing before anything goes in, so there is no open-ended charge running in the background.
This is warehouse storage rather than a self-storage unit you hold a key to, so access is arranged on notice rather than on demand. If you expect to need regular access, tell us at booking — a self-storage unit may suit you better and we will say so.
There is usually a minimum billing period, which we confirm with your quote. Ask for it explicitly — a daily rate with a hidden monthly minimum is a common surprise in this industry.
Storage cover is separate from transit cover and is not automatic. Ask what is included, what it excludes and what the limit is, and get it in writing before goods go in.
Tell us roughly how much and for how long, and we will quote the storage separately from the move.
